James went with Lino today to pick up our children's new birth certificates documenting their new names and their new parents and grandparents!
Truthfully it feels a little strange the way these documents come out. It is legally as though we were their parents on the day they were born, which is a good thing, because it means that Brazil recognizes and supports adoptive parents as equal with parents raising their biological children. However, this way of documenting us as legal parents indelicately eliminates our children's biological family from the legal record. We want to do our best to hold their birthmother, birth family and birth culture in a place of respect and value, for truly, without our children's fractured past, our family's hope-filled future would not exist.
We are rejoicing in this exciting milestone and looking forward to all the other exciting moments that will come as our family continues to grow together and experience all the miracles of life as a family.

Well, I think they were yours from birth, you just didn't know it yet. I believe God was preparing you every moment of the way to be ready to be their parents. It is bittersweet that past ties are severed and you are wise to value and respect where they have come from. Biological and legal are terms used to suit human beings, but the love you have in your hearts for Maynara, Lucas, Luana, and Brayan is what defines you as true parents.
My arms are aching to hold all of you close. My family is the only gift I could ever want. My heart is bursting with love for the grandchildren God has sent me.
Amor, Vovo
